Preparation for the first Bento workshop

I have prepared the recipe for the first Bento* workshop at my son's school.

(* Bento means Lunch box in Japanese.)

We are honored to be invited by teacher to conduct the Bento work shop!!

My partner will demonstrate how to cook the dishes for the Bento, egg roll and vegetable side dishes. I will provide vegetable side dishes for tasting.

After the Bento workshop, I will introduce about the Bento workshop and share the recipe on this blog. The Bento workshop will be conducted on Feb 5!

I hope that the lunch box of every Filipino children will become more colorful and more balanced nutrition.

Today's Baon

・Ehoumaki (sushi roll)
・Sautéed spinach, cauliflower, onion, and bacon
・Lightly marinated vegetables
・Tomato

Ehoumaki
People believe that they'll get good luck if they can eat a whole sushi roll without making any noise facing toward the east-northeast, which is believed to be the lucky direction for the year.

I couldn't provide a whole Ehoumaki for my son because the small lunch box of my son does not have a space for the whole Ehoumaki!!! However, my children may be get good luck even if it was not whole. Because they ate up everything of the Ehoumaki (egg roll, sautéed carrot, boiled spinach, sautéed pork) which I provided to them 3 slices each. (^o^)

In Japan, we have an event on February 3 called "Setsubun". Setsubun means " division of seasons". However, "setsubun" has now come to mean the day before the first day of spring only. We throw roasted beans while saying "Oni wa soto. Fuku wa uchi". Oni means Demon in Japanese. On this day, someone play a role of demon wearing the demon mask, we throw roasted beans to hit against the demon. After throwing the beans, people customarily eat one roasted soy bean, for each year of their age, and pray for happiness throughout the year.
